Temporary Engineering Technician Commencing April 2024

Position overview

The role of the Engineering Technician is to support the development of engineering solutions for our Q-POC platform, and the development of engineering solutions for research and commercial development across our platforms.

This role will last for six months.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Performing a combination, but not necessarily all, of the following duties:

The Engineering Technician works within a team of scientists and engineers developing QuantuMDx’s portable molecular diagnostic device and molecular diagnostics assays for a range of diseases.

  • Work independently with the assistance of the lead or senior engineers to develop minor designs and test rigs using CAD modelers.
  • Capable of performing tests of prototypes using electromechanical rigs and instrumentation, and write detailed reports with conclusions and recommendations
  • To interact with, and ensure excellent communication with, the other QuantuMDx R&D groups and external engineering partners.
  • Work within the research & development team based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
  • Adhere to all of QuantuMDx’s Quality Assurance (QA) Systems.
  • Undertake all tasks as may reasonably be requested by the Engineering Team, Senior Management and Board.

Experience, knowledge and requirements

The person holding this position is an individual who has strong technical understanding of engineering design and an ability to work within a team to accomplish product development goals.

Essential

  • Demonstrable hands-on experience on a mechanical workshop environment such a university setting or any part time work placement.
  • Experience with test equipment – mechanical, electrical, pneumatic or otherwise.
  • Understanding of design techniques for manufacture, assembly and maintenance.
  • Understanding of appropriate manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of materials such as plastics, metals and additive technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a changing environment on complex projects.
  • Outstanding teamwork and an ability to interact with external and internal partners on fast-paced projects.
  • Good sense of humour, a team player and an ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Be eligible to work full time in the UK without restriction.

Desirable

  • Experience with a modern 3D CAD system, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of a 2D CAD system, preferably AutoCAD.
  • Experience on creating and reading mechanical drawings for manufacturing.
  • Ability to source suitable components and manufacturers and manage those outsourcing projects.
  • An understanding of electronics.
